Why Should You Air Fry Chicken?
There are several reasons for making air fried chicken instead of traditional deep-fried chicken:
First, I like making homemade air-fried chicken because there is a tremendous health benefit to air frying over pan-frying or deep-frying versions. Although you don’t need to require any oil, I do recommend a very lightly spraying the exterior of the fried chicken with oil before and during your air frying process. However, remember not to submerge the whole chicken in oil because the chicken undoubtedly cannot absorb all the oil in your air fryer and leaves you a mess!
Another great thing about air fryers is that the tenders of chicken get super crispy and crunchy in the exterior and maintain moisture in the interior with less oil. While there are some specific oilless fryer recipes that can’t match well to the air fryer, fried chicken does excellently. Frying your crispy chicken with your air fryer is definitely worth a try!
Which Air Fryer Recommended?
When it comes to which types of air fryers, I recommend the Big Boss Oil-less Air Fryer to create all your chicken air fryer recipes. This air fryer model has a super large basket because of its unique design. It can hold your chicken perfectly without dividing into batches, and the food comes out so crispy!
Or else, you may want to consider the Air Fryer XL 6.8QT Air Fryers Oven. It is a multifunctional air fryer, a blended combination of an air fryer and an oven. For this reason, its capacity is also very suitable for frying chicken. This version features many additional functions for more cooking experience.
How To Bread The Air-fried Chicken
Traditionally, any fried chicken recipe can probably be dredged in the flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs. However, the one trouble might be if you apply a thick breading to your air-fried chicken for the coating, it is going to be hard to hydrate all the flour, and as a result, you will certainly end up with none-cooked floury spots.
I’d love to soak my chicken in buttermilk to create the classic fried chicken tenderness for my chicken recipe. Then, I dredge it in seasoned breadcrumbs or seasoned all-purpose flour up to my preference. The buttermilk makes the breadcrumbs or flour stick to the chicken and provides a nice layer of breading on the fried chicken.
So, you have known the basic techniques for your air frying chicken. Now we are going to prepare the chicken before getting into the primary cooking process!

1. For the chicken:
2. For the coating
3. Cooking Utensils
Prepare The Chicken
Add the buttermilk, eggs, hot sauce, paprika, salt, pepper, and whisk well until combined.
Continue to add the baking soda and baking powder and whisk continuously.
Add the flour or breadcrumbs up to your preference.
Marinate The Chicken
Place the washed chicken in a large bowl. Season it well with pepper and salt, then add the buttermilk mixture. Leave it to stay for about an hour to allow it to absorb the seasonings.
Dredge The Chicken
After marinating, remove the chicken from buttermilk and shake off for any excess. And dredge the chicken in the flour on both sides, then dip into the buttermilk mixture again.
One more time, dredge the chicken in the flour and then transfer it to a wire rack or a clean plate to rest. Repeat the process with all the chicken pieces until completed.
Air-fry The Chicken
Note: If your air fryer is my recommendation above, your air fryer can hold up a full chicken. However, if your air fryer in your home is quite small for this cook, you may need to work in two batches.
Place the chicken pieces in the basket of your air fryer. You should leave enough room between the two pieces to prevent them from sticking to each other and allow the air to circulate around all of them.
Spray the chicken pieces lightly with a bit of cooking spray or brush with oil.
Insert the basket into the air fryer and turn on the air fryer to 350°F. Use tongs to flip the fried chicken every 14 minutes. Spray lightly with more oil a second time on the bottom side of the chicken pieces. Then, fry for another 10 minutes to get the chicken cooked evenly.
During the air frying process, if you check out and realize any dry flour spots on the chicken exterior, you should spray those dry spots lightly with a bit of oil. The breading of the chicken will never crisp up and even burn if you do not coat it with a tiny bit of oil to hydrate it.
Serve The Chicken
When the chicken is done, remove it from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes. The serving is ready; you can serve it with mashed potatoes, salad, or any favorite fried dishes!
How To Store The Leftovers
Cooked fried chicken or leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for less than five days to serve. And you need to reheat in a 300°F oven for about 10 minutes. If you are concerned that the chicken leftovers cannot keep the crisp, here’s what to do for you:
Preheat the air fryer up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to warm up and cut down on the cooking time.
Line a baking sheet with a foil and put the chicken leftovers into the foil. Lightly place another sheet of foil over the chicken pieces.
Turn on the air fryer and fry for about 10 minutes, then allow them to cool for 5 minutes. This will let the crust relatively crispy and heat the chicken leftovers evenly outside.
Check the chicken leftovers for the crispiness. If the crispiness is acceptable, finish the reheating process. Otherwise, repeat the reheating for another 5 minutes uncovered before serving.
Some people might think it would be best to pop the chicken in the air fryer for a few minutes to reheat. But you will run the risk of burning the coating of your fried chicken, so I do not recommend that.
How To Cook With No Air Fryer?
If you do not have any air fryer available in your house, then pan-fry instead! Definitely, you can make fried chicken with a traditional pan fry method if you have no access to an air fryer. Here is the instruction:
However, when it comes to safety and effectiveness, air fryers must be your best friend. In this circumstance, you should invest your payment in a new air fryer for effective cooking. It only takes barely 10 minutes in the air fryer, and the result will turn out to be tender, flavorful chicken pieces. Moreover, you will get the most healthy meals to fry without oil. I promise air fryers will worth your dollar!
Oilless fryer chicken recipes are excellent and brilliant. The chicken will be made more tasty and delicious if you try them in the air fryer. The forced circulating heated air of the air fryer makes the chicken exterior super crispy, and the interior is perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy.
